Feeling Stuck in Life? 7 Signs That You Need To Change
When I finally decided to move, the decision itself happened quickly. However the thinking, planning and preparation took much longer, thankfully.
I had been considering to move for quite some time and throughout that process, I asked the Universe to guide me. I didn’t want to make the decision from my ego or simply act on what I thought I should do, because that will always lead you down the wrong path. So I stepped back and began to listen, trust and allow myself to be guided by the Universe towards what was right for me.
So, how did I know that I was ready for a Change?
For me the answer came through meditation, journalling and learning to listen to the guidance within me. I spent time asking myself honest questions about what I truly wanted and where my life was leading me. I also asked the Universe to show me signs and provide guidance, trusting that the answers would reveal themselves when I was ready to receive them. The signs came through loud and clear, it’s amazing when you trust and strengthen your intuition, this sign are no longer subtle they become impossible to ignore.
Rather than allowing fear, doubt or my ego to make the decision for me I chose to slow down, listen and trust the process. The signs and reflections I received gave me a sense of confidence and reassurance that the path I was choosing was right for me at that particular point in my life journey.
Sometimes getting unstuck doesn’t mean having all the answers. Sometimes, it begins with becoming still enough to listen to what your heart, your intuition and the Universe are trying to show to you.
Let’s go through the top 7 signs that you know it’s time for you to make a change in your life.
1. You’re Constantly Thinking About Starting Over
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like if you could be on that beautiful place pictured on your screen saver?
For a moment you imagine yourself there, breathing in the fresh air, exploring somewhere new and experiencing a life outside your everyday routine. Then reality begins to speak to you: Work won’t give you the time off, I can’t afford it, who would go with me, it’s not realistic.
Before you know it, those thoughts have talked you out of the dream.
Sometimes, these are the very thoughts that keep us feeling stuck. We create reasons why something can’t happen before we give ourselves the opportunity to explore what might be possible.
Yet when you continually find yourself thinking about starting over, travelling, changing direction or creating a different life, perhaps there is a deeper part of you asking to be heard.
Your heart my be calling you towards something more, while your ego responds with fear, doubt and all the reasons you should stay where you are.
Perhaps the question isn’t can I really do this? But what could become possible if I allowed myself to listen to my heart?
Sometimes the first step towards your dreams isn’t knowing exactly how you’re going to get there, it’s trusting the feeling that keeps calling you forward.
2. You Feel Restless For No Obvious Reason
The term ‘Itchy Feet’ is often associated with a desire to travel or explore somewhere new. Even so, what if that feeling of itchy feet is about more than simply wanting to go somewhere? What if it’s your body, your energy and your intuition gently telling you that it’s time to move?
That feeling of restlessness can sometime appear when a part of you knows you’re ready for something different, yet another part of you is holding you back. You may feel unsettled, distracted or as though you simply can’t stay where you are for much longer.
Think about how people sometimes sway or shift their bodies when they’re nervous or anticipating something. Our bodies can naturally respond to emotion and anticipation by preparing us for movement.
Change can feel much the same.
That restless feeling may be an invitation to pause and ask yourself: What am I being called towards?
Perhaps your restlessness isn’t something you need to ignore. Perhaps it’s an opportunity to listen more carefully to your intuition, explore what is no longer serving you and become open to new possibilities that you may be guided to.
3. You're Questioning What You Really Want
Perhaps you’ve started having deeper conversations with yourself. You are asking questions you may not have asked before: What do I really want from my life? What is my purpose? Am I living the life that feels right for me?
You may even find yourself questioning the choices you make, your routines, your relationships or the direction you’re heading in and eventually, one question may keep returning.
Is there more to life?
Perhaps there is.
The fact that you are asking these questions is a sign that something within you is ready to shift. Rather than pushing those thoughts aside, allow yourself to become curious about them. Your intuition may be trying to bring something to your attention.
Try this simple exercise: take a quiet moment and ask yourself the questions that keeps coming up and then write down the answer that comes to you first! Before your mind has the time to analyse, judge or talk you out of it.
Don’t worry about whether the answer seems practical or logical, simply listen.
Sometimes clarity doesn’t arrive as a loud revelation. It begins as a quiet thought, a feeling or a questions that keeps nagging until we finally choose to listen.
4. You Feel Disconnected From The Person You've Become
I want you to become aware that you are more that just your physical body. Your spirit, mind and body are deeply interconnected and when the parts of you become disconnected, you may begin to feel unsettled, unhappy, unfulfilled or even disconnected from yourself.
This disconnection can be an important sign that something in your life needs to change.
One of the biggest signs can be feeling disconnected from the person you have become. You may look at your life and realise that the person you’re living as no longer feels like the person you truly are.
I know this feeling because I experienced it myself when I was nursing. From the outside, I had a career but deep within me, I knew it wasn’t the path that felt right for me. I felt disconnected, unhappy and lost and I couldn’t ignore the growing feeling that I was meant to be somewhere else.
This is when it becomes important to listen deeply to yourself.
When you slow down and become willing to hear what your inner self, intuition and spirit are telling you, then you can begin to reconnect with who you truly are. From there, you can start finding your way back towards a path that feels more aligned with the life you want to create.
Remember only you can make the change.
That feeling of disconnection may be the red flag asking you to stop, listen and take notice. Don’t dismiss it or keep pushing it further into the future.
Perhaps the time to begin listening to yourself isn’t someday.
Perhaps it’s now.
5. Your Longing For Something More
What do you think would happen if you gave yourself permission to do something that you have always wanted to do?
Think about it this way. Perhaps you’ve been following a diet for a while but one day you decided to have cheat meal that you’ve been craving. What happens? You enjoy it, satisfy the craving and then you simply continue on with your diet. One meal doesn’t undo everything you’ve done.
So what happens when you have a deeper longing for something different in your life?
Perhaps that longing is there for a reason
When you allow yourself to explore something you’ve been dreaming about you may discover new possibilities that you couldn’t see while staying within the same routine. You might meet new people, experience something unexpected or discover a part of yourself that has been waiting to be expressed.
Sometimes what feels like a craving for something different can actually be your intuition calling you towards a new experience.
Your life journey doesn’t have to be completely mapped out before you take the first step.
So ask yourself - what is one thing I’ve always wanted to do?
Then when the opportunity is right, give yourself permission to take the first step.
You never know where one brave decision might lead you.
6. You Keep Feeling That You're Meant To Move Forward
Don’t ignore that feeling that keeps calling you.
Have you ever noticed what happens when you truly want something? You keep going. You stay focused, keep moving forward and don’t stop until you’ve reached what you were searching for and when you finally get there there’s a wonderful sense of relief and fulfilment because you’ve answered that inner desire.
Life can be much the same
Sometimes there is a quiet feeling within us that keeps saying, “Keep going, there’s something more for you.”
You may try to ignore it or convince yourself that you should simply settle for what you have, but if that feeling continues to return perhaps it’s worth listening to rather than pushing it away.
Settling can leave a part of you wondering what might have been possible if you had followed that feeling.
You don’t necessarily need to know exactly where you’re going or how everything will unfold. Sometimes you simply need to honour the feeling trust your intuition and take the next step.
There may be something beautiful waiting for you on the other side of that decision.
Don’t be afraid to keep moving towards to the life that feels right for you.
7. You're Tired Of Repeating The Same Patterns
Have you ever watched the movie Groundhog Day Starring Andie MacDowell and Bill Murray? The same day keeps repeating itself over and over again, with Bill’s character eventually realising that he needs to learn something in order for the day to change.
Sometimes life can feel a little like that.
You wake up, follow the same routine, go through the same motions and find yourself wondering, “is this really what my life is suppose to be?”
If your days begun to feel repetitive or as though your’re simply going through the motions perhaps it’s time to pause and ask yourself what this feeling is trying to teach you.
Maybe there’s a lesson you’re being invited to learn a pattern you’re ready to break or a new direction you’re being called towards.
Life isn’t meant to be lived on autopilot. It’s an ever-changing journey filled with opportunities to learn, grow, explore and experience new things.
Sometimes, feeling like you’re living the same day over and over isn’t a sign that something wrong with you, it’s simply a sign that something in your life is ready to change.
So ask yourself what needs to change for me to feel excited about my life again?
The answer may be the beginning of your next adventure.
