The Truth About Morning Routines and how it affects your Day

Why am I talking about morning routine? Mainly because it is a constant in my life, it's the one thing that doesn’t change a lot in my life and day is my morning routine. Now whether you agree or disagree I can guarantee you that you too have a morning routine that you may not be aware of. Meaning, you maybe getting that coffee at the same cafe pretty much the same time everyday to work, that is a routine.

Routine is a part of our lives and we either embrace it or fight it either way you have a routine. Here’s the thing, by having a routine especially in the morning can set you up for a positive day. Let’s reflect for a moment and think back when you were running late for work or something had happened which made you late for a date or a meeting, how did you go when you were unsettled and feeling stressed?

Get this when your morning is set up with ease being able to do the things that you want to do in the morning before work, puts our mind frame into a positive outlook, therefore we are starting our day in a positive manner. By starting the day with ease and flow your day becomes a lot easier to manage so when you are faced with a stressful deadline you can face it with calmness.

Your morning routine can be anything that eases your nervous system and puts you in a good mindset to be able to get through the day. It doesn't have to be an intense routine like hit the gym for 20 minutes it's a routine that helps you get into the right mindset and eases your nerves so that you can start the day calmly.

Can a Morning Routine Change Your Life?

YES!! Absolutely by having a morning routine you can rely on everyday gives you mental clarity, emotional stability and productivity. It’ sets the tone of the day, it puts you ahead of your peers. I know a lot of people who hit the gym before they get to work and when they get into the office they are on point, they have the energy to face the day they have a better outlook on the day.

The same as a person who prefers to sleep in until the last minute and putting their time in looking good and making sure that they look the best they can that day, as it puts them into the right mindset for the day and they know that they look good and feel as they can take on the day with any challenge that may come their way.

Either way you look at it, by having a morning routine puts you in a positive mindset which gives you the confidence to face the day and the challenges that it may bring. It also puts you a step ahead of any of your peers.

How Do You Bring in Spirituality In Your Morning Routine?

Before we can get into this topic of spirituality, let me define spirituality. Your faith and what you believe in is your spirituality. So do what you believe in and just incorporate it into your day. Take this, Mark Wahlberg's morning routine includes reading from his bible and prayer.

Here’s the thing, if a busy man like Mark W, can find time in their busy schedule then you can too. I like to do my meditations whether it be 5 mins to 30 mins it will depend on my day but the main thing is that I do it.

By setting intentions for the day brings about a day of purpose by being guided by a higher power. There is a difference between control and setting intentions, when we set intentions for the day there can be a variance. We may set the intention however if it doesn’t go the way we wanted, that's ok because of the strength of our spirituality you will know that the day will come about in the positive manner for which you intended.

When we try to control the day, then we are fighting against the guidance of the higher power. By trying to control the day, you are forcing the day towards something that may not be positive, so release the control and let the day flow, if you intend the day to go positive then you will have a positive day but if you try and control all the minor things within the day you will steer yourself down the road of a bad day.

1. Affirmations

Starting the day with a positive mantra helps set your mind for a positive day it also aligns you with your values and faith. Here’s the thing, when you are aligned with your beliefs and values it gives you hidden strength and confidence, because you know you're living your life authentically.

Read a chapter or a segment of a book that will feed your soul, whether it’s a bible or a book from an author that inspires you. Either way, you are being inspired by someone you admire, this will uplift your day. If you don’t have the time whilst you’re getting ready but you have drive time or you have time on the train/bus then listen to an audiobook or podcast.

2. Exercise

When you move your body the energy within will be released and having a good flow of energy in the morning gets you energised for a great day. Whether you go to the gym or do yoga or even go for a walk in the morning, gives about an amazing energy, you feel good and ready to take on any challenges.

3. Journalling

Writing down the dreams you had during the night is an amazing way for you to figure out life’s issues or receive messages. Write them down and get them on paper before you forget them. Even journal your worries onto paper, this will give you the opportunity to look at your problems in a different way that may help you figure out a solution. Get this, when you write it down the universe will know what you are asking and will give you an answer if you’re ready to receive it.

4. My Morning Routine

  1. Get up and use Rose Water Spritz on my face - I like the smell and your skin can do with some hydration before you get into the day.

  2. Journal - write down my dreams and any issues that may have come up during the night.

  3. Read a small segment from A Course In Miracles

  4. Yoga or exercise followed by a short meditation or long depending on my day.

  5. Breakfast and feed my cat Belladonna

This is done on a regular day and these are my non-negotiables in the morning.

5. How To Keep Up With Your Morning Routine

When you figure out what you like to do in the mornings, then practice it daily. The above example of my morning can be changed to fit into a busy day or not by reducing the times and swapping out my reading to either an audiobook or podcast of someone who gives me inspiration. Your routine is sacred to you but also can be flexible, it needs to fit into your day that suits you.

6. How Do I Know If My Routine Is Working

This is measured by your day, if you have done your morning routine including the spiritual practice and your day is positive and you had an amazing day then you know that it’s working, because you are now seeing synchronicities, you’re feeling calm through the day, you are more focused and your intuitive side becomes more apparent.
